Manufacturer: Abbott Healthcare
Pharmaceutical name: Terazosin
Pack: 10 pills (1 mg)
Hytrin (Terazosin) belongs to a class of medications known as alpha-adrenergic blockers. It works by relaxing veins and arteries, facilitating smoother blood flow. Additionally, Hytrin relaxes the muscles around the prostate and bladder neck, which aids in urination. This medication is prescribed for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and to enhance urination in men suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate).

You should not take Hytrin if you have an allergy to Terazosin. It may cause dizziness or fainting, particularly when you first begin taking it or when you resume use. If you experience light-headedness, you may prefer to take this medication at bedtime. Exercise caution when driving or performing tasks that require alertness. Avoid standing for extended periods and overheating during exercise or in hot weather. Be cautious about rising too quickly from a sitting or lying position to prevent dizziness.

If you discontinue Hytrin for any reason, consult your doctor before resuming it, as you might require a dose adjustment.

Hytrin can impact your pupils during cataract surgery, so inform your eye surgeon in advance that you are on this medication. Do not stop using Hytrin prior to surgery unless instructed by your surgeon.

Inform your doctor of all medications you are currently using, especially other blood pressure drugs, including diuretics (water pills).

Side Effects: Potential side effects include fatigue, nausea, drowsiness, blurred vision, headache, or nasal congestion. You may also experience light-headedness or dizziness upon standing, particularly after the initial dose and in the first week of treatment. To reduce the chances of dizziness and fainting, rise slowly from a sitting or lying position. If dizziness occurs, sit or lay down. Notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly if any of these effects persist or worsen.

Keep in mind that your doctor has prescribed Hytrin because they believe the benefits outweigh the risks of side effects. Many individuals using this medication do not experience significant side effects.

Contact your doctor right away if you experience any of the following rare but serious side effects: fainting, rapid or irregular heartbeat, burning or tingling sensations in the hands or feet, issues with sexual function, swelling in the ankles, hands, or feet, or unexpected weight gain.

Seek immediate medical attention if you encounter any of these rare but serious side effects: easy bruising or bleeding, and changes in mental or mood status.
